No. Volunteers are not required to have professional teaching or mentoring experience. Patience, dependability, encouragement, and a willingness to listen are the most important qualities.
Yes. Participating volunteers will attend an orientation before beginning their service. The orientation will explain program expectations, school guidelines, and appropriate ways to support students.
Volunteer schedules will be based on school needs, program availability, and each volunteer’s availability. Garden of Hope CDC will work with participants to identify appropriate opportunities.
Activities may include encouraging students, supporting approved school activities, sharing life experiences, modeling positive behavior, and providing a consistent adult presence.
